Computer File Server

So I needed the ability to access my files from anywhere in the world. I wanted to buy a cloud drive, but I designed an easier way.
Materials:
old functioning computer
USB stick
hard drives of any size you need
Procedure:
So this project is real simple and it works with any old computer, laptop or desktop. So the beginning step was to install Ubuntu Linux, and remove Windows. To install Ubuntu go here and click the install For Ubuntu. You’ll need to burn the ISO file onto a USB stick using Win32DiskImager. After that, you can take the stick and go to your old computer. Make sure the computer is completely shut down, then put the USB stick in. When you start up the computer hit F8(this may change based on your computer) before Windows loads. Click run from USB. Follow the rest of what Ubuntu tells you to make sure it uninstalls Windows and installs Linux. After finally finishing the install, you should see the desktop loaded up. You’ll want to make sure you’re connected to the internet and WiFi. After that whole setup, you’ll want to install VNC viewer on your computer from realvnc, along with VNC connect on the Ubuntu computer. Create a VNC account and then have both computers signed in with your account. you can now plug your hard drives into the Ubuntu computer and then connect via VNC. You can now easily view files and download them from the other computer.
