My Wooden Arsenal

This summer, 2019 I worked on a couple of woodworking projects. But I didn’t make furniture, or a structure, no, I made weaponry.
Materials:
A Couple Pieces of Either Hardwood or Softwood
And that’s it!
Tools:
Band saw, or any kind of precise cutting saw.
I began this project by deciding what weapons I wanted. My first weapon was a Karambit, and my next was an Egyptian Khopesh. I then decided what wood to use. I had to make the decision between hardwood and softwood. Now the difference between these woods is that softwoods flower, while hardwoods don’t. With my Karambit I went with a softwood because I was only going to use it a decoration and its what I found in my neighbors garbage can. For the Khopesh I headed out to Home Depot to get a nice piece of red oak wood. The process was practically the same for each blade. I went on the internet and found simple outlines of each blade with the tang and then handle pieces. The tang is the part of the blade which fits into the handle. I then traced my printed outlines onto the wood using my carpenters pencil. Following that trace, I cut the pieces out using a band saw. After cutting the pieces out, I took the two pieces of handle and glued them on either side of the tang. I then took the two blades to work and sanded them down on the belt sander. I created smooth hilts and easily created sharp edges on the blades. I then grabbed a large Dremel and created a handle that fit my fingers in a grip. After I finished these two blades I coated them in finish to really bring out the wood color. After theses two weapons I created the peacekeepers weapon, a bo-staff. At Home Depot I bought a wooden banister hand rail. It was the perfect shape and size. I then took sandpaper and sanded down the ends to sort of taper it. In the center I wrapped it with old pieces of cloth to create a sort of handle that was still smooth enough for my to slide my hands down the pole. These projects were overall fun and turned out really well.
